Dana has to let Connelly know she is in charge to maintain order. Every one follows a chain of command execpt for him. He thinks he's the Sheriff..
He NEVER followed the chain of command when I knew him. Chief Beavers was adament about the chain, and for good reason. Your right he does think he is the sheriff. His EGO was huge when he was a LT., then it has just gotten worse. I dont wish ill will on anyone, but this guy shouldnt be leading court services. His eye rolling always fucked me up when he was talking to me. I was like, whats he looking at now ?
Anyway, so what on the who is related to who. It doesnt matter as long as they treat you with respect and dignity. Unfortunately we havent had that relationship with the command staff. I also hope that Dana knows that Connelly and Dicaro are street bullys. I also hope that Dana enforces the chain because that will devistate Connelly. If she can be successful at doing that she will be a good leader and hopefully Dart will back her. If that doesnt happen then you will know that Dana isnt qualified, but like I said she can only be as successful as Dart supports her to be. That means closing the door on the ass kissing by KC.
This might be one of Darts good moves, have opptomism that this will be a positive change. If Dana and Connelly go at it, it sure is going to be interesting on who Dart backs !!! Dicaro is irrelevant at this point, and I think she will be incapacitated in a short while I believe.

J.Ryan was Sheahan's downfall and Connelly will be Dart's. Dana Wright will be a great improvement to this department. I don't really know Burke but geez get off the guy already. I find it ironic thst RR MS and other people who work get roasted on here all the time. I'm sick as hell. I wish I could call in but I'm trying to build my sick time up to 40% of my cumulative total. I want to be considered for special assignment or promotion so I'm going to come in to work tomorrow. I hope I don't get my coworkers sick but I figure if I don't call in for the next year and a half I'll have finally built up enough sick time. I apologize in advance to anyone whom I infect.

Would cry to his daddy whenever he did't get his way. Thought he was entitled to positions like state rep, state treasurer, and sheriff. Thought he was entitled to positions that Dan hynes was getting. Became very jealous of hynes and spread falsehoods which many believed at the time.
4 Lack of empathy, disregard for others,
Many officers fired for minor offenses. Creating OPR division with no reguards to how many people are hurt. Puts officers lives in danger to free up money to create high level positions to his donors, and people he deems can help him run for higher office. Shows no reguards to his officer's who are attacked in the line of duty. Orders them not to file charges when it benefits him politically. Then blames chiefs like Millazo and Jackson. Showed no empathy or reguards to destroying those chief's reputations.
5 Constant need for attention
Will do anything to get attention. Exhibits an overindulgent craving for media attention. Always has to be the center of attention. Becomes very jealous of others who are receiving more attention than him. Never lets anyone else in the department speak at his press conferences. Has to take full credit for everything.
6 Shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes.
Speaks to people as the are inferior to him. Shows distain for police officers because of his liberal philosiphy. Believes the sheriif's position is beneath him.

So every year at the Cook County Board meetings we at the Sheriff's office are forced to sit back and listen to County commissioners talk about how CCSD (especially CCSPD) needs to be cut. Every year it is the same nonsense. We are forced to justify our existence again and again in order to prevent lay-offs.
Being one of the employees who participates in this yearly ritual of worrying about losing my job and providing for my family, this story really upsets me.
Any contract under $25,000 does not require the County Board's approval. Which means that Stroger can make as many payments, to anyone he chooses, as long as they are under $25,000, without having to answer to anyone. So much for checks and balances.
With the County budget exceeding 3 billion every year, these payments tend to slip by unnoticed.
Well, one was recently found. And you are all going to love this one. According to the Sun-times:
A payment of $24,975 was made out to a public relations company named Urban Rapport. The purpose: "to build awareness of the department's (Department of Environmental Control) energy and conservation program,"
Wait, wait, it gets better. The Sun-Times reported that
"A check of state and county records shows that Urban Rapport, run by convicted felon and hip-hop promoter Terrell "Shorty Capone" Harris, isn't a registered businesses in Illinois -- a requirement of businesses doing contract work for Cook County."
So basically instead of retaining or hiring more officers here at CCSD, Stroger would rather hire an unregistered company run by a person named "shorty capone" to inform the public about the County's Dept. of environmental control.

Scott doesnt have the people skills to run a church car wash. He is in a long line of screwed up second in command types like Carter, etc. that have driven the jail to the brink of disaster.
Now they have tremendous problems with Shackman, the federal monitors for Duran, the medical, budgets, screwed up technology, radios, computers, and morale even lower than in courts or the PD.
Most importantly, the inmates do not fear the officers. When I was there in 1986, we had control. We had to kick the shit out of people, but we had control. Now that officers are being stripped, fired, pinched and sued for defending themselves; they will not put a finger on an inmate. The inmates (not being as dumb as you'd think) figured it out. Now there is no control.
Having federal monitors in your house is not a good way to do business, ever. Never trust a fed!
John is an awfully smart guy, decent and respectable. The jail is truly f'ed up and they need smart guys like John to make it right. He will probably do it unless the 7th floor and the battalion of lawyers get in his way.
The jail traded up a hundredfold.
I havent talked to him in months but I suspect that he didn't want to go, rather he got ordered to go "by a higher source". Being a team player, he went.
The PD lost a good guy that had a lot of pride in our PD and wouldn't hurt a working copper if his life depended on it.
I do not know of a soul that has a single bad thing to say about him.
As for the rest of our command staff, I just cant tell. I do not know what they want to do. There seems to be a lack of leadership, an influx of management by crisis (the Katrina model) and a split or riff between certain chiefs. This will not do.
Say what you want about the CPD people; and I by no means am in love with them, but this shit never happened when they were here.

the biggest enemy in our department is ourself,sadly. We can whine about how bad the sheriff is, how the bosses don't let us do what we want when we want anymore, how making us wear our stars and nameplates even in the lockup is gonna make it easier for someone to put in a beef against us. We when we do our job, its amazing how usually nothing seems to happen. It is when we try to be slick,it causes nothing but problems. If something happens tell the truth, take the hit. If you did the right thing stand behind it, you will be suprised how many people will support you. Don't get me wrong, i am all for doing as little work as possible. Sometimes we have to give up an hour of our 2-8 hour lunches depending on who u r and where u work so that someone else can go to lunch. If u r reassigned when your courtroom goes down, too bad. As long as everyone has to be reassigned, don't complain. Why are u special to where u can't be reassigned? The way to beat reassignment is to say that the courtroom goes longer than it did or hold the prisoners longer in the bullpen then needed. Those are the kind of people who should be taken out of their comfortable assignments and banished to front door,back door or wherever the assignment that nobody wants is. After a couple of days of doing that, the person will beg for the courtroom back and even be willing to be reassigned to another courtroom when needed. When we allow bad stuff to happen in our department under some guise of loyalty or cowardice or survival, we are part of the problem.

They might be the same lackeys that Michael"Goldfinger" Sheahan had going to facilities to check up on them. they used to try to act like inspectors and have people disciplined and written up. they would try to sneak up on posts and see if they would get caught.they did not have the authority to act like inspectors.

If she can be successful at doing that she will be a good leader and hopefully Dart will back her. If that doesnt happen then you will know that Dana isnt qualified, but like I said she can only be as successful as Dart supports her to be. That means closing the door on the ass kissing by KC.

So every year at the Cook County Board meetings we at the Sheriff's office are forced to sit back and listen to County commissioners talk about how CCSD (especially CCSPD) needs to be cut. Every year it is the same nonsense. We are forced to justify our existence again and again in order to prevent lay-offs.
Being one of the employees who participates in this yearly ritual of worrying about losing my job and providing for my family, this story really upsets me.

Allow me to highlight my favorite parts of it.
Any contract under $25,000 does not require the County Board's approval. Which means that Stroger can make as many payments, to anyone he chooses, as long as they are under $25,000, without having to answer to anyone. So much for checks and balances.
With the County budget exceeding 3 billion every year, these payments tend to slip by unnoticed.
Well, one was recently found. And you are all going to love this one. According to the Sun-times:
A payment of $24,975 was made out to a public relations company named Urban Rapport. The purpose: "to build awareness of the department's (Department of Environmental Control) energy and conservation program,"
Wait, wait, it gets better. The Sun-Times reported that
"A check of state and county records shows that Urban Rapport, run by convicted felon and hip-hop promoter Terrell "Shorty Capone" Harris, isn't a registered businesses in Illinois -- a requirement of businesses doing contract work for Cook County."
So basically instead of retaining or hiring more officers here at CCSD, Stroger would rather hire an unregistered company run by a person named "shorty capone" to inform the public about the County's Dept. of environmental control.
Remember this the next time any of you hear about budget cuts.

Scott doesnt have the people skills to run a church car wash. He is in a long line of screwed up second in command types like Carter, etc. that have driven the jail to the brink of disaster.
Now they have tremendous problems with Shackman, the federal monitors for Duran, the medical, budgets, screwed up technology, radios, computers, and morale even lower than in courts or the PD.
Most importantly, the inmates do not fear the officers. When I was there in 1986, we had control. We had to kick the shit out of people, but we had control. Now that officers are being stripped, fired, pinched and sued for defending themselves; they will not put a finger on an inmate. The inmates (not being as dumb as you'd think) figured it out. Now there is no control.
Having federal monitors in your house is not a good way to do business, ever. Never trust a fed!
John is an awfully smart guy, decent and respectable. The jail is truly f'ed up and they need smart guys like John to make it right. He will probably do it unless the 7th floor and the battalion of lawyers get in his way.
The jail traded up a hundredfold.
I havent talked to him in months but I suspect that he didn't want to go, rather he got ordered to go "by a higher source". Being a team player, he went.
The PD lost a good guy that had a lot of pride in our PD and wouldn't hurt a working copper if his life depended on it.
I do not know of a soul that has a single bad thing to say about him.
As for the rest of our command staff, I just cant tell. I do not know what they want to do. There seems to be a lack of leadership, an influx of management by crisis (the Katrina model) and a split or riff between certain chiefs. This will not do.
Say what you want about the CPD people; and I by no means am in love with them, but this shit never happened when they were here.
Good luck John and come back after you fixed the divisions. Keep an eye on my old haunt Div IV for me.

the biggest enemy in our department is ourself,sadly. We can whine about how bad the sheriff is, how the bosses don't let us do what we want when we want anymore, how making us wear our stars and nameplates even in the lockup is gonna make it easier for someone to put in a beef against us.
We when we do our job, its amazing how usually nothing seems to happen. It is when we try to be slick,it causes nothing but problems. If something happens tell the truth, take the hit. If you did the right thing stand behind it, you will be suprised how many people will support you. Don't get me wrong, i am all for doing as little work as possible. Sometimes we have to give up an hour of our 2-8 hour lunches depending on who u r and where u work so that someone else can go to lunch.
If u r reassigned when your courtroom goes down, too bad. As long as everyone has to be reassigned, don't complain. Why are u special to where u can't be reassigned? The way to beat reassignment is to say that the courtroom goes longer than it did or hold the prisoners longer in the bullpen then needed. Those are the kind of people who should be taken out of their comfortable assignments and banished to front door,back door
or wherever the assignment that nobody wants is. After a couple of days of doing that, the person will beg for the courtroom back and even be willing to be reassigned to another courtroom when needed. When we allow bad stuff to happen in our department under some guise of loyalty or cowardice or survival, we are part of the problem.

In closing, an example, did we see former Sheriff Sheahan when his command made significant arrests ? No. He did his job and didnt care to promote himself in front of the cameras. Why do we have to have a press interview everytime there is something done under Sheriff Dart ? Political agenda, probably, and thats the sad part. Dart reminds me of former Gov. Blago, he wasnt happy being governor for the people he was always looking for more. Mr. Dart reminds me of that same personality, he isnt happy being sheriff for the people of Cook County, that is beneath him. He will run for higher office with the help of the free press he gets, I just wonder why, if he doesnt like the sheriffs' job, didnt he just wait for the political office that he would have enjoyed working for to open up ?
I may be an idiot but I do believe that when you arrest someone,cuff them and hold them in a cell for 2 days you really should be able to justify it.

Call me crazy, but i think taking a roll of toliet paper is way worse than looking up Unauthorized Leads info, and physically assulting your Co-Workers. How about two male deputies in the lockup with 67 Doc and 34 on the new. Thats real safe. But we have too have the money to pay two new chiefs of staff positions 300k a year. These DOC prisoners tell me all the time "you know we can take over this lockup anytime we want" All i can can do is shake my head in agreement. Were at the mercy of these criminals and nobody cares downtown. It's just a matter of time before they decide to kill one of us or take us hostage. And i know they will call us a cry babies downtown for posting stuff like this. Im sorry im concerned for myself and CO-Workers safety..

I am sitting here trying to figure this one out. Why would Dart stick his neck out for someone like her? He wouldn't stick his neck out for anyone unless it benefited him. This is a guy who has had numerous people fired for petty offenses but is going to save her? A women who has committed MUCH worse Offenses then the people he has fired in the past. It doesn't make any sense... Dart Doesn't care about anyone but himself. He would never stick his neck out just to help someone. She was saved because of Ruti**, plain and simple.
