The training academy is ten times better than it use to be. So please dont start any shit.

Interesting theory yet hardly factual. The basis for your opinion, please?

Anonymous said...

I am not the one who said the Training Academy sucked, However I do have a comment.

Training 2010 was far superior to, Training 2011.

Aside from the K9 day in 2011, it seemed like the administration totally undermined what Zadelek, Kilmartin, and Hedrick were able to accomplish in 2010.

"Do not make the kiddies to smart", I am sure they were told.

I'll second that. I really enjoyed the first "LE" inservice before they watered it down to 1 or 2 days. I also had a great time @ JFOT in 2010. I know very little of Dana W. but it seems like the academy was running really well under her command. I'd rather have her or even Carmelita over Kurto.

If we took a vote i guarantee most people like the new inservice under kurto better than when wright or wagner. Uniform inspection bringing your coats in the middle of summer under the two former was insane. Kurto has way more common sense and we never have to hear donna running around anymore screaming "the directors in the building" "the directors in the building"

Sorry. Thought you were refering to the Police Academy-to which there is no way that claim could be justified.

Recently I overheard a citizen saying to another officer how well Sheriff Dart is doing & how well he is liked by the voters. This same citizen then stated that he imagined that Dart must be an excellent leader. I then heard my colleague state, Dart is a Fraud & I wouldn't follow him out of a burning building! I then proceeded to clean the spilled beverage from the front of my uniform.

How true it is!

I don't. I luv my paycheck especially when it involves overtime but the job, no way. I knew politics were involved and got hired by doing a little leg work to get the usual suspects re-elected but what I didn't know is politics is a career long necessity to grow on the job. Too many incompetent political hacks running things. This job sucks.

I have a question for Dart, Wright, Connelly, heffernan, and Nolan. What is the purpose of making the officers in deputy jail wait in line and not enter the building with the rest of the employees. That have to wait until the public enters. The have to line up like they are a bunch of criminals. Is that just another way to degrade and humiliate Them? Most of them are in there for b.s anyways. You people are a disgrace. Karma's a bitch and i cant wait till it bites all of you in the ass.

Anonymous said...

i hope you haven't been around too long. no star, no credentials, and under investigation. where do you think they should go? karma has nothing to do with this. could you imagine the fuss if they were let in as an officer without id's? do you let anyone bypass the search that cannot produce proper indentification? if you do, keep it up, and you'll be in the public line right behind them for failure to do your job!!! you can then ask your question directly to dart, wright, connolly, heffernan, or nolan in person!!! what a goof!!!!

I couldn't care much less about de-deps going through screening. What I do care about is the fact that most of them should be working in their severely understaffed facilities and units. Most of them don't need to be de-depped.

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle to hold first fundraiser

The goal of Tuesday's event at the Chicago Cultural Center is to raise $300,000, her political operatives say.

Lobbyist Tim Dart, the brother of County Sheriff Tom Dart, is listed as a sponsor committed to donating or raising $10,000.

"Our firm always likes to support progressive candidates who we believe in," said Dart, of Nicolay & Dart. "We're pleased with the direction she's taken the county thus far."

Gov. Pat Quinn on Monday signed a new Illinois law requiring everyone riding in a vehicle to wear their seat belts, including those riding in the back seat.

“We want to save lives and this legislation is important to doing that,” Quinn said at a bill-signing ceremony in Chicago.

The new law requiring everyone to wear their seatbelts goes into effect Jan. 1. Currently, people riding in the front seat of a vehicle have to wear their seat belts, but people in the back seat are only required to be belted in if they are under 18.

Officials said it was the latest measure to improve safety on Illinois roads. Others actions by the state have included a ban on texting while driving and increased training for student drivers.

Secretary of State Jesse White said making rear passengers wear seat belts will protect not only them but those people in the front seat as well.

“If by chance they are not buckled up they could become a human missile for those in the front of the vehicle,” White said.

Buses, taxicabs and emergency vehicles are exempt from the new law.

The correct answer is that IROCC does apply to Deputy Sheriffs (LE Cert or not). The State will only certify you to CC after retirement if your agency signs off on the paperwork. The personnel office will not sign off on the paperwork so that is why Deputies cant do IROCC. I see this changing in the near future though. We are eligible by state and federal standards but CCSO wont give the OK. CCSPD can.

http://www.irocc.org/

(c) As used in this section, the term `qualified law enforcement officer' means an employee of a governmental agency who--
`(1) is authorized by law to engage in or supervise the prevention, detection, investigation, or prosecution of, or the incarceration of any person for, any violation of law, and has statutory powers of arrest;
`(2) is authorized by the agency to carry a firearm;
`(3) is not the subject of any disciplinary action by the agency;
`(4) meets standards, if any, established by the agency which require the employee to regularly qualify in the use of a firearm;

Dewayne Holbrook was close to being fired in the past when he was a Markham Lieutenant. He retired to avoid it happening. He has done very little in his career & has done less since he has returned as Chief. He is there for just one reason & he has done nothing to justify his position other than occasionally sitting in his office.

He couldn't even pass a Sergeants test without special points being added.

Ok, keep in mind that I'm not talking shit. All the news stories about CCSPD lately have mentioned the officers as "Sheriff's Deputies". Now, there have been many times in the past where media gets all of our titles confused or just wrong. But news articles these days are practically written for the reporters by the Sheriff's press office. So it would seem that this is no accident.
Again, keep in mind that I'm not talking shit or teasing.
There are a lot of rumors flying around these days. One is that SP's union is trying to find grant money to hire/transition in more people because of major shortages. Another is that you guys are being phased out by attrition. Yet another is that some sort of court battle went on between you guys and Dart over his ordering you back into blue and you lost and will be ordered back to blue when you get your uniform checks.
I for one really want there to be a Sheriff's Police Department around so that one day I might get the call from the list to go there. I'd much rather stay with the county to go be the police than go to CPD. Bidding to the courts is not something I desire.
Most rumors have at least a grain of truth to them.
Could someone shed real light on things. Because something is going on and id like to know what it is.
Thanks.

The News People call us Sheriff's Deputies because that is what most "Police" Officers are in Sheriff's Dept's. We are the ONLY Sheriff's Department in Illinois to Distinguish between its Departments. This is something that happened years ago due to, as usual, Politics in Cook County. Most Sheriff's Departments have a Police/Court Combined function (Deputy) and a Correctional Function (Correctional Officer). Some Department’s it is actually the same for all three Deputies. The term being a Sheriff's Police Officer is redundant since in the rest of the U.S. there is a Distinction/Hierarchy between a Sheriff's Deputy and a local Police Officer.

Happy 4th of July. . . Stay safe out there Ladies and Gentleman!

-----------------------------------

Wrong.
The "news people" call us deputies as they don't know better.
The Will County Sheriff's Police for example (and they don't wear blue eithe) are also called "Sheriff's Police" and still uses a door decal similar to our original-the one that looks like our shoulder patch.
Last McHenry County car I saw also said Sheriff's Police.

Frankly, it was nice to have that distinction.

If a person would have wanted to be a Correctional Officer, he or she would have applied for that job.
Court Services was STRICTLY a clout job and did not fall under the Police and Coprrections Merit Board.

Illinois State Statute defined and mandated what the Cook County Sheriff's Police Department along with the Department of Corrections as set forth by the Cook County Police and Corrections Merit Board.

Now it's called the Sheriff's Merit Board thanks to that POS Sheahan, the guy who started the down hill spiral of what was a well respected non-traffic-only organization. Now, to the lowest point ever-probably like it was prior to Sheriff Ogilvie.

And thats where you are correct about the politics as someone else stated-it's a double edged sword.
Cuts pretty deep, doesn't it?

My suggestion would be to go to the Chicago Police Department. There's plenty of room for transfer to Specialized Units. Detectives are test required and a promotion that with it comes a pay bump. Look at the CCSPD dicks-LMAO. Street level guys not writing tickets solve more incidents then they do.
And in Chicago, if you're a detective they can't take it away from you if you piss them off.
Politics there? Absolutely but theres so many spots to go, so many jobs to fill that you'll find a home. Pay is pretty good too!.

Best wishes to you all and have a safe Holiday.

Proud to be the Police! said...

I am so very proud of CCSPD Detectives Lou Sala, Nick Ditusa (retired 2010) and Chris McGuire.

After returning home from my tour of duty serving and protecting the citizens of unincorporated Cook County, I read a story about a cold case murder that occurred in 1993 in the 800 blk of Huber on 35s beat. I know this block well from working in the Skokie Patrol District. I personally know the tireless hours and hours of work that went into this cold case murder investigation. I remember talking to these detectives about the DNA evidence that identified the offender, the cross country witness interviews and the roadblocks from the Cook County State's Attorney's Office. I also know that regardless of the roadblocks, these dedicated detectives never gave up on this case.

Tonight, their persistence has closed this case. This violent killer is now charged with another murder and looking at the rest of his miserable life behind bars. More importantly, the victim's family will have some closure.

Louie, Nicky and Chris...you are the real police! You are the finest examples of the CCSPD. You should be proud...I'm proud of you!

Savor this one, sleep well tonight my brothers!

crystal blue persuasion

okay i'll be looking for more ideas, BUT i proclaim my own post to be as senseless as the color of a uniform. we need to get past petty arguments and realize we all wear "A" uniform, now we need to come together, act profeesional, use our training as well as our common sense, stick up for our brothers and sisters in any color uniform, work to improve THE SYSTEM, and just put on our big boy pants... whatever the color!!!

It's not really that Burke is so awesome. It's that MOST of the other command staff members are so incredibly worthless. It's kind of like winning a gold medal at the Special Olympics.

Now thats funny!!

Anonymous said...

Just wondering what criteria elevates him to the position of "one of the best chief's"?

Its not that burke is so great. Its just that he backs his people which is a highly rare occurence with this administration.

Iv seen burke personally tell OPR and mobtili to get lost when they were trying to hammer some deps at domestic. I dont think he would be so brave if not for his old man but thank god we have someone looking out for us. Fluff thought he was playing good politics when he brought young burke in. However he pissed off the old man when he didnt make the kid chief of staff. Dart has a gift of ticking everyone off. Thats why he only has 150k in his campaign fund. All its going to take is a few mishaps for Dart to lose favor with the press. He has been riding a unprecedented wave of good luck. But everyone knows his luck wont last forever. The jail is going to go up for grabs anyday now. Just a matter of time. And has anyone heard of darts mouthpiece patterson leaving for a while after a huge fight with dart.

You gotta love this department.

Two days in a row now the media is littered with reports about corrupt and bizarre behavior by sworn officers in this department.

Yesterday a story surfaces about a ccspd sgt. being arrested yet again.

THIS IS WHY WE ARE A JOKE!!!

And it is a sad, sad joke that we are all a part of. First there is the incident with the hot tub, but now there seems to be multiple documented incidents that this employee has been involved in leading up to another arrest. To think that this person was able to gain the rank of ccspd lt.

THIS IS WHY WE ARE A JOKE!!!

I understand that clout and political donations determine the ranks of this department. But seriously, someone should have had some common sense and stepped up and said no. But again...

THIS IS WHY WE ARE A JOKE!!!

Because a fucking nut job like this can make ccspd lt. And the sad part is she probably would have been a commander by now, if she just could have kept her craziness in check for a bit longer.

The other story involves yet another correctional officer passing contraband to yet another dirtbag prisoner. But this prisoner wasnt just any dirtbag, it was the coward that hit a 100lb female with a baseball bat in bucktown.

Hey correctional officers! Have some fucking standards! If you are going to risk your job, liberty, your reputation and the reputation of this dept(as tarnished as it already is), dont risk it for this 2-bit coward. Im sure it was worth the couple small bills you almost received or the post shift sexual favors that you were promised. Whatever the deal was.

In conclusion...

Great job assholes, you are a credit to your dept.

P.S.

To the fuckheads that not only signed off on hot tub going to ccspd, but promotions to sgt., then lt. Nice fucking decisions there too. You passed up some good people for this loser. But cash and clout is king around here.

This police department really saddens me. I can not believe how poorly managed we are. It is almost like the gods at daley center and the south campus want it to fail so they can remold it into the image that they want.

We have a chief of police that was a nice guy in vice. He makes no decisions whatsoever. He feeds his squirrel and bitches about his furlough days.

We have a FDC that is also a nice man. Even less comes from his office.

We have (had) a DC of patrol that is a ghost payroller. No useful guidence has come from his office since he stepped fott into it.

Now we have none. The first time in my 28 years with the PD that we have no DC of patrol, arguably the most important exempt position in our dept!

We have a DC of detectives that is a drunk and an embarassment. Sean basically runs us. But of course scott knows how to handle homicides, ask Tricia Pacacchio and 10 or so other women who died needlessly since the offender wasn't charged when scott was in the SAO.

We have a DC of administration that does not talk to the other chiefs. He has his agenda and takes care of his people and that is it. No cars, no new equipment, nada.

We have a DC of special investigations who also is also ghost payrolling. Why do we need one of these?

We have commanders of patrol and their deputy commanders who amongst all 4 of them give less than a rats ass about the unincorporated area. But that is ok, the sheriff and turdwinkle don't care much either.

Then there is Kelly, again. This is wrong on so many levels. She was promoted waaaaaay beyond her abilty to supervise and command people. She is a sick woman, alcoholism is a disease not a crime. The department never identified this and took corrective steps to help her. Now she has embarrassed us again. She will be suspended again. The papers and TV news will shit all over us again. So all of the good work that Pat and the narc guys did along with all of the other good work that our police department has done will go unnoticed because the media is all over the hot tub thing.

Our department has failed our officers by not helping us out when we needed it the most. Just like when Derrick committed suicide. What did our braintrusts do? Instead of getting him help and watching over him, they hid him on a desk on ice station zebra with the other sick people hoping it would all get better.

Then we turn our attention to the south campus AKA: the ivory tower! OPR is absolutely out of control. They have not a clue of what to do so they do was wet scared cornered dogs do, they overreact! Jim should have never been sent to deputy jail, they need manpower in the meadows and this their answer? They fucked up the Percy case and I rest well knowing that they will fuck up the Kelly caper too, again.

We have a PIO that runs around with a police star that has no clue of what to say to the press. In my 28 years, we have never been so poorly represented to the press (except perhaps when Denny Walsh was the PIO under Elrod).

They have hired classrooms full of lawyers, and not a single deputy or policeman?

We will go a full two years without anyone being selected off of the current sergeants list. The 2 lieutenants were gimmes.

I do not have that much longer out here. I do not want to be the one to turn out the lights on a failed dept. I just pray that the square wakes the fuck up and starts running things, before someone else does it for them!

Dart Claims That Not Turning Over illegals To ICE Will Make The Streets Safer! I Cant Make This Shit Up!

Sheriff mulls freeing inmates wanted on immigration charges!

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart says keeping some detainees in jail at the request of immigration authorities could be compromising public safety.
On any given day, the Cook County Jail holds hundreds of inmates picked up on criminal charges who also happen to be wanted for an immigration violation. Sheriff Tom Dart’s office keeps them up to 48 hours beyond when the criminal cases would allow them out. That’s to allow Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the federal agency known as ICE, to take them into deportation proceedings. Now Dart tells WBEZ he’s reconsidering that policy because it could be compromising public safety. We report from our West Side bureau.
Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart says he doesn’t like holding on to inmates like this one for ICE to take away. He says these holds make it harder for local police to fight crime. Residents see cops and start thinking about the threat of deportation — the threat to the criminals, maybe even to themselves.
Over the years Dart has taken steps to reduce the jail’s role in immigration enforcement. The sheriff’s office says it no longer calls ICE with information about inmates. The sheriff no longer allows ICE agents in holding cells near bond courtrooms. The jail has put up big signs — in English, Spanish and Polish — that tell new inmates they have no obligation to answer questions about immigration status. But Dart says something has him in a bind. Every day ICE requests that the jail hold certain inmates two extra days so the agency can put the detainees into deportation proceedings. Sheriff Dart acknowledges there could be a downside to ignoring immigration detainer requests. Let’s say ICE knows the inmate arrived in the country under an alias or is violent — and the information didn’t appear in the jail’s background check. But Dart says letting some immigrants out of jail even though ICE wants them could be worth the risk. It might help remove the deportation issue from everyday policing. The sheriff says that could make streets in Cook County safer.

Dart is a true political asshole who should of never been on the ballot and the ICE issue confirms it.
The current CCSPD policy to ICLEAR arrestees on driving charges i.e. no D/L, suspended and revoked truly hampers the police officers ability to fight crime on the streets because they are transporting, processing and waiting for these minor criminals to be cleared.
It's funny how this ICLEAR policy isn't followed during roadside safety checkpoints and now Commanders are working the roadsides to boost up their pay checks!!.

What a fucked up police department!!.

So the COPS shit is back again. This was an embarassment to everyone on the Sheriffs Police Department.Once again, lets explain this. The laws of the State of Illinois will not allow entertainment footage without releases from all people involved. This is why you only saw the sad footage that was aired. This was not a representation of what we as Police Officers encounter everyday in Suburban Cook County or the City.
So if you want to base your views of what is being done on the streets on these COPS episodes feel free.I think you might be in for a little surprise.
You might find that getting lunch for the Judge wasn't so bad.

Maybe your laptop can teach you to write proper grammatical sentences. For your information any department that allows laterals would recognize this certification. Its a certification issued by the ILETSB, same as everyone elses. As far as FTO, the department can do that once you start, which would happen anyways cause your starting off in a new area/department.

LE certification = ......

You seem to be so informed, perhaps even enlightened, let me ask you, did you work North of South or South of North? Did your FTO have anything to do with your amazing map skills?

Now get serious, do you think that little comeback made me feel better, superior, or priviledged? Of course not! We can keep going back and forth from blog to blog beating each other up or we could try to fix things. Here's what worries me, too many people seem to be too concerned about who's doing what and why. We need to look at the big picture, someone has to and downtown seems to be blinded by some obvious truths. If you look carefully at some posts, inappropriate or not, you can see truths, ie. 1)safety concerns be it on the street, in a facility or in the jail. 2) Policies that need to be reviewed. 3) House cleaning that needs to be done. 4) Accountability on ALL levels. 5)Moral issues in ALL departments. And so much more. However, this can only be accomplished if we stick together, what a concept, I've been on for 25+ years and have never seen it tried. The concept of divide and conquer is old and tired. Get ALL our Unions at ALL levels from ALL departments to come together, focus on common issues and beat the drum loudly to get some answers, to get the message out to the general public and stop the petty bickering among ourselves once and for all.

You see I can come up with more than just song titles.

Well, you see..Therein lies the problem..People don't come to work...PERIOD!!! At least a good amount of them don't. And where I work, there were at least 6 co-workers taking ZERO days because they have no sick time on the books. ALL of these people have a minimum 10+ years on the job,and most of them 15+.Funny,they don't seem that sick to me. No debilitating disease carriers, etc. For those of us that do come to work on a daily basis, and actually enjoy doing our jobs,we get burdened by our LAAAAZZZZZYYYYYY co-workers,who abuse the system, and those always seem to be the biggest complainers when it comes to work assignments, etc, etc. And PLEASE..Don't even get me started on this FMLA Farce. This is one of the biggest scams going, and all it is,was a law created by Numbskull Politicians, knowing full well, that their "Cream of the Crop" cronies, who continue to donate, will also continue to keep their politically appointed positions, therefore, being able to still donate. I hope the county really goes after all the sick time abuse. The way I see it,if you are that sick, that you've drained all your sick time, and are in ZERO status and take ZERO days, then maybe you should go on permanent disability, and free up a spot for someone who will actually appreciate having a job in this day and age. To the DOOFUS Politicians...REPEAL FMLA. Talk about having no money to balance your budget?? You're probably paying out exorbitant amounts in OT,because a great amount of employees........DON'T COME TO WORK,and those who do come to work every day, have to do extra work because these slack asses need to sauce it up the night before, and $h!T all over themselves in the morning, then call in sick, only to go lay out by their pool,or go shopping, etc. I know we have one of the most physically demanding jobs mankind has ever seen(Sarcasm-for you political hacks who never made it past the 8th grade education wise)But the way I see it,if you worked anywhere in the "REAL" world, your A$$e$ would have been $hitcanned along time ago,and then I'd probably be tossing a few cents into your cup on 55 and Cicero everyday on my way home from work..CHEERS..Bitche$

I'm the officer who posted about my LE certification... I will back up any officer, any time, any where no questions asked. I have had numerous CCSPD run jobs with me and me ask them when I see them if they need a friendly hand. You guys and girls are some of the best officers i've ever come across. It's just bothersome to be looked at like I did something wrong or to be looked at, as something below your level. A transition course was offered by my department, and I took it. I'm not going to apologize, or make excuses for what the LE cert is or isn't. For me it will be a stepping stone to hopefully something better then where i'm at currently... not a courtroom or courthouse. I have a hard time understanding the hard-on CCSPD has for the other branches of this department, it's not the Deps or the CO's who are phasing you out or depleting your ranks slowly by attrition, it is your/my Sheriff and his minions who cause this in-fighting, the friction within the ranks. Always remember my CCSPD brethren where YOU came from, those "beneath" you might be coming from that very same place. My hope is that you don't judge me on where or how I got my training but on what kind of officer I was in your time of need or emergency, because at the end of my day and tour you are a member of our department. Like it or not my friend.

If you go to CPD, you have to go to their academy anyway. At the most, you don't have to take the state exam.

Keep up the in-fighting boys and girls, you're playing right in to the current "powers that be". You are giving very encouraging signs that we really can't get along, trust one another, work together, have a decent dialouge, make changes that can benefit all departments, see any other problems than our own, act like adults, show that we can stand united, and more. I stated previously the montra of "divide and conquer" is old and tired. But we are doing it to ourselves. How many of you have really sat down and looked at the staff numbers from 2006 and 2011. Factor in all those already gone, those on the Ordinary Disability on the 5 year plan to get to retirement, Injured on Duty that becomes Ordinary Disability and then becomes FMLA for themselves, the HUGE bunch looking to retire THIS year, promotion lists that can't be filled because there is no one filling the bottom of the seniority list for 5 years now, and sooooooo much more. And what are we doing about it? Waiting for our Union leaders? Worring about the color of our uniform? Knocking officers that are taking training courses that are offered to them? Trying to figure out if someone else is getting something we don't even want? I don't have much more time to do, but those of you in Police or Courts, time is running out on you also. How much longer can we sustain ourselves? Our ranks are being desimated. Did you ever figure how many classes the Court Services end would have to put through just to make up those lost since 2006, just to get them even? LOOK AT THE NUMBERS it can't be done. You would need 3 classes per year of at least 40 candidates. The plan per downtown is to have zero, there will be no more. CCSP is not in much better shape. Check with your Union! I don't want to sound like I'm saying the sky is falling, but you know is has already begun.

as you are all bantering and pointing fingers at each other i am adjusting my deferred compensation, preparing a resume, looking for other options and planning for my future. i hope to retire from here within 10 years, but i'm planning in the event that the "sky is falling".

i know this much, the current adminisration is killing this entire department!
